What to know when converting WebP to JPG
Converting WebP to JPG makes the image render straight away in more places. Older print kiosks, photo gallery apps, and a few photo lab services still don't accept WebP, so JPG fills the gap. Setting the quality around 90 keeps the visual difference virtually invisible.
If the original WebP has transparent areas, they get filled with white during the JPG conversion. Anything that needs to keep an empty background, like a logo or composition element, is safer going to PNG instead. JPG works best for photos with rich, varied colors that you want to share at a smaller size.
File-size results depend on the content. Photos with lots of color variation move to JPG without much size change while keeping similar quality. Flat illustrations and screenshots, on the other hand, tend to grow and lose edge sharpness in JPG, so they're better kept as PNG or the original WebP.
