What to check when sharing iPhone HEIC photos as JPG
HEIC is what iPhones save by default, but Windows Photos, certain Android devices, and older message boards still can't open it. Converting to JPG before sharing means the recipient sees a preview right away, which keeps messenger threads, emails, and print orders moving without friction.
HEIC stores the same quality at about half the size, so it's an efficient format on its own. JPG copies tend to be 1.5 to 2 times larger, which matters if you're backing up to the cloud. Keep the HEIC originals for storage and produce JPG copies only for the shots you actually want to send.
Location data and similar shooting details are stripped during the conversion, so the JPG only carries the picture itself. Sharing family photos or trip pictures no longer drags GPS coordinates along with them. If you'd like to keep the originals untouched, save them to a separate folder before converting.
